Bearded dragons, whose scientific name is pogona, are native to Australia. They are a genus that belongs to the order of squamata and within this to the family of agamas (agamidae). Agamas – and thus also the genus of bearded dragons – belong to the iguana family and therefore are lizards!

Bearded dragons are a rather concise genus, as there are only eight different species.
