Dog Who Spent Over 900 Days In Shelter Gets Returned A Day After Adoption

A dog who spent almost three years at Valley Animal Center in Fresno, California gets returned a day after her long-awaited adoption.

The four-year-old Labrador-Pitbull Mix, named Sora, was first surrendered to the Valley Animal Center, the largest no-kill shelter in California’s Central Valley, on July 2021.

The animal center says the lovable dog was surrendered in 2021 “after her owner realized she needed more attention and training than they could provide since they also had another dog.”

Sora is described as a “high energy dog who loves to play and gets super excited anytime she gets to go on walks.”

While she does well with children over the age of 5, she prefers a home where she is the only furry companion as she doesn’t get along well with other dogs and cats.

“With patience and guidance, we know Sora can be a great addition to anyone’s family,” Valley Animal Center wrote.

Sora’s heartbreaking adoption story went viral when TikTok user @jjack.iie posted about the dog’s short-lived fur-ever home.

The video has sinced garnered over 1 million views and almost 200,000 likes. In the video, you can see Sora looking sad after being back to the familiar place.

The video has been reuploaded by a Facebook user named Camilla Araujo. And she reveals that Sora was immediately returned because the family who adopted the pooch deemed her “too big for them”.

Sim Kaur from the Valley Animal Center tells Newsweek, “Being in a shelter for many years affects the mental health of our adoptables and it is no different for Sora.”

“Sora did not get enough time to decompress in her new home and was introduced to new family members too quickly,” Kaur added.

Valley Animal Center even featured Sora in an article highlighting the difficulties long-term shelter dogs face the longer they stay at animal shelters.

Last month, Valley Animal Center posted a video of Sora along with Eros, another dog that was also returned one week after being adopted.

“Their tails wagged with hope as they were welcomed into their new home. 🥺 However, after a short period of time, these shelter dogs found themselves back in their kennels,” the animal center wrote.

They also added, “They are still hopeful that somewhere out there is their furever home where they will be chersished as they deserve.”

Furthermore, Valley Animal Center said, “With patience and guidance, we know Sora can be a great addition to anyone’s family.”

Sora is still up for adoption! For interested adopters, you may visit this page to find out more.
